China’s Communist Party state aims to rule the world

United States has never faced a ‘threat’ like this, warns former national security adviser O’Brien

China poses an existential “threat” to the United States that has not been seen since the birth of the nation.

In a conversation hosted by the American Enterprise Institute think tank, the former national security adviser to the Trump administration, Robert C O’Brien, warned of Washington’s challenges in confronting Beijing on the global stage.

“I’m not sure America has faced a threat like Communist China in our history. Maybe the Revolutionary War, when we fought the British, who were the leading superpower in the world at the time?” he said earlier this week as reported by Voice of America.

“I think the threat that we face from China is far more serious than we faced against the Soviet Union in the Cold War. They have an ideology that they can use to govern the world,” O’Brien pointed out.

Cold War 2.0:

This launch is a powerful signal intended to intimidate everyone.

Delve deeper: Just hours before O’Brien’s comments, Beijing announced that it had fired an intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean. Analysts suggested this was meant as a message to the US in a rare public test.

Between the lines: “This is quite a statement at this time when China is in conflict with many of its neighbors,” Drew Thompson, of the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University, said.

What this means: “This launch is a powerful signal intended to intimidate everyone,” he told the CNN network on Thursday.

China Factor comment: Under the leadership of Xi Jinping, the Communist Party state has bullied its neighbors and threatened to invade Taiwan while aiding Russia in its illegal invasion of Ukraine. Hardly the acts of a peaceful nation.
